The Heng family are famous for producing all types of traditional Chinese swords of the highest quality. However the broadsword or "Dao" is the one weapon for which they have been most famed.

In Chinese history there was a saying of "nan jian bei dao" or "south sword and north knife", the south sword here refers to the Long Quan Sword and the "north knife" to the Heng Broadsword or sabre. The broadswords shown here are the "Royal Heng Knives" and only ever sold to the royal court.

This weapon comes in two weights, light and heavy, the statistics at the end of this page relate to the heavy variety, we'll put the light dao statistics up when we are finally left with any in stock unfortunately they tend to go very quickly!

One of the notable things about this sword is that it isn't for the faint hearted the heaviest version of this sword available is 1.28 Kg, thats almost 3Lbs!! It does leave one with a definite sense of security when caught in a dark alley at night, but for forms which require a lot of wristwork we would recommend the light version of this weapon!

The hilt and scabbard of this sword are made from rosewood with brass fittings the grip fits very firmly in the hand and helps to counterbalance the weight of the blade. Every male and a large proportion of females who have handled this weapon have left with a slightly manic grin on their faces.

The blade of this dao is of a very solid construction, while there is a fair amount of weight in the blade it still retains a degree of flexibility to be responsive to your demands and has a truely excellent balance.
